Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down into phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with phenylketonuria, a hereditary condition that requires restriction of phenylalanine intake, should not take this medication. Individuals with allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not use it. Patients with congestive heart failure or gastrointestinal weakness, as well as those with serious intestinal diseases such as gastrointestinal ulcers or toxic colitis, should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with intestinal obstruction or those experiencing nausea and vomiting, patients requiring surgical intervention for acute abdominal conditions, patients with severe dehydration, and those with rhabdomyolysis or hypermagnesemia should also refrain from using this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or those with ascites are advised to avoid this medication. Patients who have recently undergone gastrointestinal surgery, or those with kidney or heart diseases, or inflammatory bowel diseases should use this medication cautiously. Furthermore, patients taking medications that may affect hydration or electrolyte balance, children, elderly individuals, frail persons, and those at risk of hypokalemia need special caution. In case of hyponatremia, immediate replenishment of fluids and electrolytes is necessary. Taking this medication may result in various side effects such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rashes. Especially, allergic reactions or severe electrolyte imbalances may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms develop, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. Using this medication before colon surgery has not been clinically proven to be effective, so it should be used only when absolutely necessary, and the risks and benefits of treatment should be carefully evaluated. This medication cannot be used as a general laxative, and the risk of fluid and electrolyte imbalances increases with prolonged use, so it is safest not to use it for more than 24 hours. This medication can affect the absorption of other oral medications, so patients taking antiepileptic drugs should be particularly cautious. When taking this medication, magnesium components may interact with some antibiotics, iron supplements, and digoxin. It is advisable to take these medications more than 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking this medication. Moreover, this medication should be used carefully in patients taking drugs that can cause hypokalemia, and there may be an increased risk of fluid retention and electrolyte imbalance when taken along with certain anti-inflammatory analgesics or antidepressants. Usage of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, while for breastfeeding mothers, since it is minimally absorbed, it may be considered with caution. In case of overdose, severe diarrhea may occur, necessitating adequate hydration and treatment according to symptoms. When taking the solution prepared from this medication, it should be allowed to cool to an appropriate temperature if the solution in water is hot, and any opened packets should be used immediately, discarding any remaining medication. It is important to adjust the timing of medication intake according to the schedule of colonoscopy.
