This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Therefore, it is effectively used in the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders.

This medication should not be administered to patients undergoing dialysis or those with diminished kidney function. Additionally, it should not be given to patients with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or its components, patients with acute porphyria, patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants, and neonates, as well as patients on restricted potassium intake diets. Patients with liver function issues, a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and patients with a history of kidney dysfunction should exercise particular caution when using this medication. If used in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially in elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers, regular monitoring is required. This drug can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so it should be administered to patients with gastric ulcers or those in middle age or older who have newly appeared dyspeptic symptoms only after malignancy has been ruled out. Patients with Helicobacter pylori positive gastric or duodenal ulcers should undergo concurrent eradication therapy. Special attention should be taken in critically ill patients due to the risk of gastric stone formation, and in patients with hypophosphatemia or those with swallowing difficulties when taking this medication. Rarely, serious allergic reactions or various adverse reactions involving the blood, liver, heart, digestive system, and nervous system can occur, so symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Long-term use should be avoided, and careful monitoring of the treatment course is important while administering the minimum effective dose. During clinical tests, this medication may affect test results, so it is advisable to inform medical personnel about its intake before tests. In cases of overdose, appropriate treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage is needed, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be required. Lastly, this medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract; thus, eye examinations may be necessary with long-term use.
