This drug is used to treat hypertension, stable angina, and myocardial ischemia caused by vascular spasms. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with recently confirmed coronary artery disease via angiography, without heart failure or reduced cardiac output. It is also effective in reducing risks associated with coronary angioplasty. It helps alleviate and prevent symptoms of various cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For Amlodipine, take 5 mg orally once daily; the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg per day based on the patient's response. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who have had an allergy to this drug or similar medications, nursing women, those with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and individuals in shock should not take this drug. Moreover, it should be used cautiously in patients with severe hypotension, those requiring kidney dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Generally, this drug is well tolerated, but side effects such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur. Rarely, hypotension, vasculitis, neurological disorders, erectile dysfunction, dry mouth, skin rash, and liver dysfunction have been reported. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function should be particularly careful when administering this drug, and since the effects of this drug manifest slowly, it is unsuitable for emergency situations. This drug can interact with several medications, so it is essential to inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking. Particularly, taking this drug with grapefruit juice may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, so caution is advised. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid using this drug whenever possible or consult a doctor before making a decision as its safety has not been established. In children, efficacy has been confirmed only for those aged 6 years or older, and it is advisable not to use it in children under 6 years old. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and tachycardia may occur, so immediate medical assistance should be sought, and cardiac and respiratory functions should be monitored closely. It is generally possible to drive or operate machinery while taking this drug, but caution is necessary if symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness occur.
