Colon cleansing effect for preparation before colon examination
This medicine is used to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy or X-ray examination. It helps to remove the contents of the colon to ensure that the examination can proceed smoothly. This allows for accurate diagnosis and investigation.
On the evening prior to the colonoscopy, take 1L of the prepared solution (500mL * 2 doses) over 1 hour (250mL per cup every 15 minutes), and additionally drink 500mL of water. The following morning, take another 1L of the prepared solution (500mL * 2 doses) over 1 hour and drink an additional 500mL of water. This process must be completed at least 1 hour before starting the colonoscopy.
This medicine may rarely cause systemic tonic-clonic seizures in patients without a history of seizures, so caution is necessary when used with drugs that can cause electrolyte disturbances. It should not be administered to patients with serious gastrointestinal diseases such as bowel obstruction, intestinal closure, perforation, or toxic colitis, and should be used with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. The artificial sweetener aspartame included in this medicine is metabolized to phenylalanine, so patients with phenylketonuria should not take it. This medicine is not to be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this medicine or its components, suspected bowel obstruction or perforation, dehydration, severe heart failure, active cancer, gastric paralysis, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, unconscious patients, or children under the age of 18. Patients with intestinal strictures or severe constipation, the elderly, frail patients, those with vomiting reflex disorders or altered consciousness, and patients with severe renal impairment should be administered cautiously. This medicine may cause adverse reactions such as hunger, hypophosphatemia, hypokalemia, sleep disturbances, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, abdominal distension, malaise, thirst, tremors, and discomfort. Particularly in the elderly, serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding due to mucosal damage, esophageal perforation, cardiac asystole, and acute pulmonary edema have been reported, thus caution is needed. Before and during administration of this medicine, the patient's bowel movements and abdominal symptoms should be closely monitored, and if there is severe abdominal distension or pain, the rate of administration should be adjusted or stopped. If symptoms of fluid and electrolyte disturbances appear, blood tests should be done to verify the condition and appropriate treatment should be received. Patients with heart disease or at risk for electrolyte imbalance should undergo monitoring through ECG and blood tests. This medicine may cause diarrhea, so adequate hydration is necessary. Using irritant laxatives in conjunction may increase the risk of intestinal mucosal damage, hence co-administration should be avoided. Before administration, light meals should be taken, and meals should be finished an hour before, avoiding solid foods. The effects of this medicine on driving or operating machinery are unknown but caution is required. Mixing this medicine with thickening agents may reduce viscosity, so caution is needed. It is advisable not to take other medications within 1 hour before this medication is administered, especially those with a narrow therapeutic range may face absorption interference. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should carefully consider the benefits and risks before using this medicine. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established, so it is not administered. The elderly should be cautious as they are more sensitive to medications. In case of overdose, dehydration and severe electrolyte disturbances may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored and necessary treatment should be received. This medicine should not be mixed with other components or flavors, it should be dissolved in water and taken immediately, and any solution not used within 24 hours should be discarded. Keep this medicine out of reach of children, and the prepared solution should be covered and refrigerated without being transferred to another container.
