Treatment effect for recurrent (acute otitis media, acute sinusitis)
This medication is used for the treatment of recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and recurrent acute sinusitis in pediatric patients. It is particularly effective for children under 2 years old or those attending daycare with recent antibiotic experience for these conditions in the past 3 months. This drug acts against key bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis, and is also effective against beta-lactamase-producing strains. Thus, it is suitable for treating such infections. It is used to improve recurrent otitis media and sinusitis in children.
Children over 3 months: Based on amoxicillin content (600 mg/5 mL), it should be administered at a dose of 90mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours. For acute otitis media, it is taken for 10 days; for acute sinusitis, it is taken for 7 days.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics. Care should be taken, especially in patients with accompanying viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, as they have a higher risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this medication or penicillin should also avoid use. Since this medication contains lactose, it should not be used in patients with lactose intolerance or genetic metabolic disorders. Patients with liver dysfunction may experience further deterioration of liver function when using this medication, so it should be administered with caution. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment may require adjustments to dosing intervals due to elevated blood levels of the medication. Patients with allergic constitutions or bronchial asthma should also use this medication with caution. Patients who are unable to take orally, elderly patients, or patients in poor general condition may show symptoms of vitamin K deficiency, so care is needed. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders may experience decreased effectiveness due to improper absorption of the medication. Although this medication is generally safe, side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and skin rashes may occur, so if symptoms are severe, consulting a doctor is recommended. Liver dysfunction or severe allergic reactions, and blood abnormalities have been reported rarely, and regular monitoring may be required. It should be avoided during the early stages of pregnancy and used during pregnancy only under physician judgment, and care should be taken during breastfeeding as adverse effects may occur in the baby. It is not recommended for infants under 3 months where safety has not been confirmed. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if any other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms and renal dysfunction may occur, requiring adequate hydration and appropriate treatment. This medication should only be used for treating infections and is not effective against viral infections, so it should not be stopped or misused. It should be shaken well before use, refrigerated after preparation, and completely consumed within 7 days. It should be kept out of reach of children, away from direct sunlight, and stored in a dry place below 25 degrees.
