This medication works by binding to certain proteins to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing the bacteria. Patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock after using this drug should not take it. Furthermore, patients who are allergic to this drug or similar classes of antibiotics, or those with genetic issues related to lactose digestion should also avoid this medication. Patients with allergies to penicillin antibiotics, predispositions to asthma or dermatological allergy symptoms, severely impaired kidney function, and a history of gastrointestinal disorders should use this drug cautiously. During the use of this medication, severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, abnormal liver function, decreased kidney function, gastrointestinal problems, and neurological symptoms may occur rarely, so any symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Particularly, if severe diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs, it may indicate serious colitis such as pseudomembranous colitis, necessitating immediate cessation of the medication and a visit to the hospital. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is especially needed when taking other drugs that could affect kidney function, anticoagulants, or oral contraceptives. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this drug cautiously only when necessary, as its safety is not fully established, and the effects on nursing infants should be considered. It is advisable not to use this drug in infants under one month of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been confirmed. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function and a higher risk of adverse reactions, so doses and intervals should be adjusted, and careful observation is needed. When using this drug, it is recommended to take it for only the appropriate duration to prevent the development of resistant bacteria, and susceptibility testing should be performed before treatment. Additionally, this medication can affect the results of certain clinical tests, so this should be reported to the healthcare providers during testing.
