Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis
This medication is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and duodenum. It is also effective for gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and helps with conditions associated with excess gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can be given before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome and is also used to prevent the occurrence of ulcers after surgery. It is suitable for treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). By treating various gastrointestinal diseases, it helps alleviate symptoms and aids in treatment.
Usually taken orally as 2 tablets twice daily, irrespective of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers Take 2 tablets twice daily or take 4 tablets once at bedtime. In particular, for patients with duodenal ulcers, taking 4 tablets twice daily in the morning and at bedtime can yield a higher treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Administer 2 tablets twice daily or 4 tablets once at bedtime for 8 weeks. 3) Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome Starting with an initial dose of 2 tablets three times a day, which can be increased as needed. For severe cases, a maximum of 6 g of ranitidine may be administered daily under medical supervision. 4) Peptic Ulcer, Acute Stress Ulcer, and Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding Caused by Acute Mucosal Lesions Switching from injection to oral intake, administer 2 tablets twice daily once oral administration is possible. 5) Preoperative Administration (to Prevent Mendelson's Syndrome) Administer 2 tablets 2 hours prior to anesthesia. Administering 2 tablets the night before surgery is also advisable.

Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Caution is advised for patients with a history of rare blood disorders such as acute porphyria, as this medication may trigger seizures. Patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women, or those who may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication for safety. It should also be avoided in premature infants and newborns, as well as in patients on a potassium-restricted diet. Patients with liver function issues, a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, or those with previous kidney problems should use this medication carefully. If taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs concurrently, especially elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers should be regularly monitored. This medication can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or middle-aged patients who have recently developed dyspepsia should confirm there is no malignancy before use. Patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori should undergo treatment to eradicate the bacteria. Caution is required for critically ill patients as gastric stones may develop. The aluminum content of this medication may interfere with phosphate absorption, so patients with hypophosphatemia should also use it cautiously. Patients who have difficulty swallowing should be careful as respiratory complications may arise. Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, urticaria, angioedema, fever, bronchospasm, hypotension, and chest pain may occur, and should prompt discontinuation of the medication. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so if symptoms of jaundice or hepatitis appear, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention. Elders or patients with a history of heart disease should exercise caution as abnormalities in heart rhythm have been reported rarely. Digestive symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and while stool color may change, no special treatment is usually needed. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, insomnia, and headaches may occur rarely, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals. Rare symptoms such as gynecomastia, increased milk secretion, erectile dysfunction, and decreased libido have been reported, although direct correlation with this medication is not certain. Muscle aches or joint pain may appear rarely, and if signs of severe muscle damage occur, stop taking the medication immediately. Rare skin abnormalities such as rashes or hair loss have been reported; consult healthcare professionals if skin changes occur. It is advisable not to take this medication for a prolonged period, and during treatment, periodic blood, liver, and kidney function tests should be performed to check for abnormalities. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems may have an increased risk of pneumonia while taking this medication, so caution is advised. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur after taking this medication, so it is safer to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to administer it to minors. In cases of overdose, treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be required to remove the drug.
