This medication is primarily used as an adjunct for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when not controlled by diet and exercise. It also helps to lower cholesterol levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when used in conjunction with diet or other lipid-lowering therapies. This drug effectively lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis, and is particularly useful in managing cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years who are at high risk. Additionally, it is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. For middle-aged patients with cardiovascular risk factors, it contributes to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases by reducing the risks of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization. Therefore, it is an effective treatment for controlling cholesterol levels and reducing cardiovascular risks.
