This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by monotherapy. It helps effectively lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, it is effective in treating essential hypertension and is used to improve blood pressure control.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage is one tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, regardless of meals, and taken with a small amount of water. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is to be prescribed for blood pressure lowering when Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is indicated. The antihypertensive effect reaches its maximum after 2 to 4 weeks.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus if used during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are allergic to any of the components of this medication or sulfonamide drugs, or who are pregnant or may become pregnant, should not take this medication. It is also not safe for patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or certain liver or kidney diseases to use this medication. Patients with a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, etc.) or who have developed angioedema after taking ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor antagonists should avoid this medication. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer, so it is important to limit sun exposure and inform a doctor immediately if any skin abnormalities occur. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications should not be taken without consulting a doctor, and electrolyte levels should be checked regularly. This medication is not used in patients with renal artery stenosis as it may worsen renal function. Due to the diuretic component, electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia, hyponatremia, and hyperuricemia may occur, so any symptoms should be discussed with a doctor immediately. Hypotension symptoms may occur shortly after starting treatment, so it is important to maintain normal fluid levels before starting and to inform healthcare personnel if symptoms are severe.
