Precautions

This medication is an oral phosphate sodium preparation used to clean the intestines before a colonoscopy. Serious kidney problems known as acute phosphate nephropathy can rarely occur in some patients taking this medication. This may lead to permanent kidney damage or the need for long-term dialysis, so caution is necessary. Particularly, patients over 55 years old, those with a low blood volume, those with prolonged intestinal transit time, those with active colitis, those with kidney diseases, or those taking medications affecting kidney function should exercise additional caution. This medication should not be used in patients with congenital megacolon or congenital heart disease, and patients with acute phosphate nephropathy or allergies to sodium phosphate components should also avoid its administration. Patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, uncorrected electrolyte abnormalities, those over 55 years old, low blood volume, bowel obstruction, active colitis, heart failure, ascites, unstable angina, severe chronic constipation, intestinal perforation, and various health conditions should use this medication cautiously. When taking this medication, there is a risk that sodium levels in the blood may rapidly increase in children, leading to dehydration. Common side effects reported include abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and headaches. Users must adhere to the specified dosage and administration, and consult a doctor if vomiting or abdominal pain occurs. If there are sudden changes in bowel habits or bleeding, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Adequate hydration is essential, and patients who have difficulty with hydration may require hospitalization for intravenous therapy. Additionally, it is important to confirm safety through kidney function tests and electrolyte tests. This medication should not be used in conjunction with other sodium phosphate-containing laxatives, and caution is advised when used alongside certain blood pressure medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, and diuretics. Pregnant women should use this medication only when absolutely necessary due to unclear effects on the fetus, and safety in children under 18 has not been confirmed. In cases of overdose, electrolyte imbalance and dehydration may occur, necessitating immediate appropriate intravenous treatment. Finally, store this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers to maintain quality and prevent accidents.
