This medication is effective for symptoms of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina. Therefore, it helps to improve and manage the symptoms of cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 5mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and may increase to a maximum of 10mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjustments should be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to it or other dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers. It is advisable for breastfeeding women not to take this medication. It should also be avoided in patients with severely impaired liver function, severe aortic stenosis, and those in a state of shock. Particular caution is necessary for patients with severe hypotension, renal failure requiring dialysis, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medication may cause side effects such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea due to its vasodilatory effect. Rarely, lower blood pressure, vasculitis, neurological symptoms, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, gastrointestinal problems, blood abnormalities, mental changes, and skin rashes have been reported. In patients with heart failure or impaired liver function, the half-life of this medication may be extended, requiring dose adjustments. Blood pressure lowering effects may gradually dissipate even after discontinuation, necessitating caution when used in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications. It is advisable to avoid consuming grapefruit juice while taking this medication, as it may excessively enhance the blood pressure lowering effect. Furthermore, there may be interactions with certain medications, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is essential if other medications are being taken. It is recommended to avoid use during pregnancy, except in special circumstances, and breastfeeding should be halted if the medication is being taken. This medication is approved for use in children aged 6 and older, and safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6. Overdosage may lead to severe hypotension, tachycardia, and shock, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, making appropriate medical intervention crucial. While it is known not to significantly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, caution should be exercised if symptoms like dizziness occur.
