Efficacy & effects

Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This will explain the situation where a patient's essential hypertension is not sufficiently controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine or valsartan. In such cases, combining the two medications can lower blood pressure more effectively. Amlodipine works by widening blood vessels to improve blood flow, while valsartan counteracts substances that raise blood pressure, thereby lowering it. When monotherapy is ineffective, combination therapy provides better results in blood pressure control. Therefore, this medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension.

This medication is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to the main ingredient or similar drugs, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe kidney or liver disease, and those with specific heart diseases. In patients with low sodium or fluid, hypotension may occur, so it is important to check their condition before taking the medication, and immediate treatment is required if symptoms of hypotension appear during treatment. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking potassium-sparing diuretics should have their potassium levels monitored frequently. Patients with problems in renal vessels or those who have recently undergone kidney transplantation should be cautious as taking this medication may worsen kidney function. Angioedema, which is swelling in the face or neck area, may occur, so if this symptom appears, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Patients with heart failure or those who have had a myocardial infarction should pay attention to changes in kidney function and hypotension when taking this medication, and regularly check their condition as directed by a physician. When taking this medication, dizziness or fatigue may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions when taken with other antihypertensive medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, and certain anti-inflammatory drugs, so consultation with a doctor is necessary. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and breastfeeding women should also avoid it. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children under 18 years of age have not been established, so it is not recommended to administer it. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or heart problems may occur, so immediate emergency treatment should be sought. While taking this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be regularly monitored, and if any abnormal symptoms appear, medical consultation should be sought immediately.
