This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. For example, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke and lowers the risk of vascular surgeries and angina. It is particularly effective in reducing the risk of heart disease in high-risk groups such as patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it improves the blood lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, decreasing cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing good cholesterol (HDL). It is also effective when used in conjunction with dietary therapy in children and adolescents with hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used to reduce the risk of heart disease and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication may cause muscle issues, so if there is an increase in muscle pain, weakness or significantly elevated creatine kinase levels, take it immediately, stop taking it, and consult a doctor. Patients with an allergy to this drug, severe liver disease, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, children under 10 years of age, or patients taking certain hepatitis medications should not take this drug. Those with liver or kidney issues or those who consume alcohol heavily, elderly patients, and those with a history of muscle diseases need to be particularly cautious when taking this medication and may require regular examinations. This drug typically has few side effects, but symptoms like indigestion, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, liver function abnormalities, and skin rashes may occur. If symptoms are severe, notify the healthcare provider. In particular, if muscle pain or weakness occurs, immediately inform a doctor and check for muscle damage through blood tests. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so taking it with certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals may increase drug concentration and the risk of side effects, so it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this drug, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while taking it. The long-term safety in children and adolescents has not been sufficiently studied, so it should be taken according to a doctor’s guidance. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, so treatment should depend on the symptoms, and liver function and muscle status should be routinely checked. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container. Transferring it to another container may increase the risk of misuse or quality degradation.
