This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. In particular, it is used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke, complications after vascular surgery, and angina in adult patients aged 55 or older who have risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, low HDL cholesterol levels, or a family history. It is also helpful in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes with conditions such as retinopathy, albuminuria, smoking, or hypertension. In patients with coronary heart disease, it mitigates the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and angina. Additionally, it reduces cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary and mixed hyperlipidemia, and increases good cholesterol (HDL) levels. It is effective for some patients with hypercholesterolemia or dyslipidemia that are difficult to manage with diet, as well as children aged 10-17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this drug is used to effectively improve cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia.
