This medication should be used with caution in patients with liver dysfunction. Administration to patients with impaired liver function may increase the risk of citrate toxicity. Also, it should be administered carefully to patients in a hypothermic state. Use in hypothermic patients may increase the risk of citrate toxicity. Administering a large amount quickly may suppress cardiac function, cause abnormalities in the electrocardiogram, or lower blood pressure. Therefore, attention to cardiac health is necessary. Muscle-related and bone-related side effects may include muscle cramps or tremors. Sensory organs may also be affected, leading to sensory disturbance symptoms. In the respiratory system, chest discomfort or difficulty breathing may occur, so symptoms should be monitored. In the digestive system, nausea or vomiting may arise. Other potential symptoms include hematuria, chills, tremors, fever, dizziness, and metabolic alkalosis. In children, the color of stool may change to a greenish-brown, or bilirubin may be present in urine. Rapid administration of large quantities of this medication may lead to low calcium levels in the blood, causing citrate toxicity; if necessary, calcium supplements should be administered concurrently. Anticoagulants that are not clear should not be used, and blood and anticoagulants must be well mixed multiple times during blood sampling. Cross-matching tests must be performed before transfusion, and the blood must be gently mixed just before transfusion to ensure even distribution of blood cells. No other medications should be mixed during transfusion, and blood type should be verified; if discoloration or hemolysis is observed, it should not be used. Blood transfusion sets with filters should be used, and care should be taken not to damage blood storage containers. Additionally, warming the blood before transfusion should be avoided. This medication should be stored in sealed containers, preferably at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Stored blood should be kept in a refrigerator at temperatures between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius and must be used within 21 days from the date of collection for safety.
