Treatment of essential hypertension and blood pressure control
This medication is used when blood pressure control is insufficient with olmesartan medoxomil or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy in patients with essential hypertension. It effectively lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, and helps maintain a healthy blood pressure state. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
This medication is administered as one tablet once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage should be adjusted every 2 to 4 weeks based on the patient's blood pressure response. Elderly patients should start at the lowest dosage and carefully adjust the dosage based on their condition. It is administered to patients with renal impairment (mild to moderate, creatinine clearance >30 mL/min) and should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Those who have an allergic reaction to this medication, hypersensitivity to certain diuretics, significant impairment of kidney or liver function, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or electrolyte imbalance, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, or certain endocrine disorders should use this medication with special caution. Dizziness or hypotension may occur while taking this medication, so patients' conditions should be closely monitored during the initiation of treatment, and appropriate measures should be taken as needed. This medication may affect potassium levels, so blood potassium levels must be carefully monitored when taken with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics. Care must be taken when used in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications, as it can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect. This medication may increase the risk of kidney function deterioration or toxicity when combined with certain anti-inflammatory pain relievers or lithium, so discuss with a doctor before taking these medications together. This medication may make the skin sensitive to sunlight, so it is advisable to avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen as necessary. If allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing occur during use, discontinue use immediately and inform healthcare personnel. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established for use in children, so it is best not to administer it to children. Elderly patients may have a risk of decreased kidney and liver function, so it is advisable to start at the lowest dose and adjust the dosage carefully based on the patient's condition. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur, and appropriate treatment should be sought immediately. It is important to regularly monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels during treatment to ensure there are no abnormalities.
