This medication is used as an adjunct when dietary and exercise interventions alone do not adequately control primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also administered in combination with other lipid-lowering therapies for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, thereby delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. It is applicable in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia to aid in reducing cholesterol levels. This drug is also used as an adjunct to diet for patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and has the effect of reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases like stroke, myocardial infarction, and the need for vascular interventions. This medication helps improve vascular health and aids in cholesterol management.
