Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (intolerance to ACE inhibitors), reduction of mortality risk after myocardial infarction

  • Essential hypertension
  • heart failure
  • left ventricular failure
  • left ventricular systolic dysfunction
View approved original text

This medication is primarily used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It also helps alleviate symptoms in heart failure patients who cannot use ACE inhibitors. After myocardial infarction, it plays a crucial role in reducing mortality risk in patients with diminished left ventricular function. This efficacy helps improve cardiovascular health and increase survival rates in patients.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals allergic to this medication or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those with severe hepatic or renal issues should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, individuals with compromised liver function, and those with heart valve disease or cardiovascular disorders should exercise extra caution when taking this medication. Particularly in cases of sodium or fluid depletion in the body, blood pressure may drop sharply upon initial dose administration, so gradual increases in dosage should be made while monitoring the patient's condition. As this medication lowers blood pressure, dizziness or fainting may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, taking this medication with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may lead to dangerously high potassium levels in the blood, so caution is required. When taking this medication with other antihypertensives or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), renal function may worsen, or blood pressure control may be affected, so it should be taken according to a physician's guidelines. Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function, blood potassium levels, etc., is necessary during treatment, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Children and adolescents should ideally not use this medication as safety and efficacy have not been established for this age group. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, decreased consciousness, and shock may occur, necessitating immediate hospital care for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safe not to transfer them to other containers.
