This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy, effectively controlling blood pressure.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, to be taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applicable when prescribed for blood pressure lowering. No dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment. For patients with mild to moderate liver impairment who do not have cholestasis, the maximum daily dose is 80 mg of Valsartan.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components, or with certain liver or kidney diseases, should not take this medication. Careful use is required for patients with electrolyte imbalances, kidney and liver function issues, older adults, and patients with heart diseases, and regular monitoring is necessary. While this medication is effective in lowering blood pressure, light side effects such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, and cough may occur, and rare, serious allergic reactions or kidney dysfunction may happen. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur during driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised, and if symptoms of hypotension occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods should not be taken without consulting a doctor, and electrolyte levels should be monitored regularly. This medication can interact with other drugs, so especially when used with lithium, NSAIDs, or potassium-sparing diuretics, consultation with a doctor is necessary. It is preferable for women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, to avoid this medication; if unavoidable, careful decision-making in consultation with a doctor is advised. Safety in children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in pediatric patients. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from moisture and direct sunlight.
