Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medicine is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not well controlled with monotherapy. It is effective in aiding blood pressure control and reducing the risk of complications due to hypertension.
The recommended adult dosage is one tablet of Valsartan 80 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, taken with a small amount of water, regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applied when prescribed for hypertension treatment. The antihypertensive effect is maximized after 2 to 4 weeks.
This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it must be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals who are allergic or hypersensitive to this drug, its ingredients, or sulfonamide drugs should not take it. This medication is not suitable for patients with severe liver disease, severe kidney impairment, or specific kidney diseases and electrolyte imbalances. As this medication lowers blood pressure, it may cause dizziness or symptoms of hypotension, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. It may affect potassium levels; therefore, potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods should not be taken excessively without consulting a physician. During the use of this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be monitored regularly to ensure there are no abnormalities. The hydrochlorothiazide component may cause increased sensitivity to sunlight, thus raising the risk of skin cancer; therefore, it is advisable to avoid sun exposure and take protective measures. Caution should be exercised during this treatment for fluid loss due to dehydration, diarrhea, or vomiting, and if symptoms are severe, consult a physician. Interactions may occur when this drug is taken with certain medications, so inform healthcare personnel if you are taking other medicines, especially with lithium, NSAIDs, or potassium-sparing diuretics. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should refrain from using this medication and consult with healthcare providers if necessary. Special caution is necessary for children and the elderly, as the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established in these populations. Overdose may result in severe hypotension, arrhythmia, electrolyte imbalance, etc.; therefore, the dose must be strictly adhered to, and if any side effects occur, seek immediate medical attention. This medication should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and should be kept out of reach of children, preferably in its original container.
