Relief of symptoms for allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial) and chronic urticaria
This medication is used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis that occur persistently, such as seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It also reduces symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria of unknown origin, improving patient discomfort. It is effective for dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching, especially when used in conjunction with hydrocortisone topical preparations in adults and children over 6 years old, aiding in symptom relief. It supports treatment for various allergic and inflammatory skin conditions.
Adults and children over 6 years: Take 5mg (10mL as a solution) orally once a day, regardless of meals. Dosing for adult patients with kidney impairment should be adjusted based on renal function (creatinine clearance rate - CLCR). Mild (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 5mg once a day. Moderate (30 ≤ CLCR < 50): 5mg once every other day. Severe (10 ≤ CLCR < 30):
Children 2 years and older but less than 6 years: 1.25mg (2.5mL as a solution) once twice a day. Children less than 2 years old but above 1 year: 1.25mg (2.5mL as a solution) once a day.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions to certain ingredients or a history of such reactions. It is also not safe for patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. It should not be used in infants, especially children under 1 year old, and children under 6 years old should only receive a liquid form rather than tablets. The liquid formulation contains maltitol, so patients born with a deficiency in fructose metabolism should avoid taking it. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function and elderly individuals should use this medication with caution as it may remain in the body for an extended period. Central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, and dizziness may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, this medication may cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, dyspepsia, and abdominal pain. Rarely, irregular heartbeats or elevated blood pressure may occur; if these symptoms arise, consult a doctor. Allergic reactions may cause skin rashes, itching, swelling, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis; notify medical personnel immediately if any unusual symptoms occur. Since this medication can cause drowsiness, it is advisable not to take it with alcohol or other sedative medications. Patients with urinary excretion problems should be especially careful when taking this medication, and the preservatives or sweeteners in the formulation should be checked for potential allergic reactions. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and in the case of children, appropriate doses based on age and weight should be adhered to. The elderly should start with a lower dose due to potential drug accumulation from decreased kidney function and should monitor their condition. If an allergy test is planned, it may affect the results to temporarily discontinue this medication; consult with a doctor when planning tests. Symptoms of drowsiness or anxiety may appear with overdose, and since there are no specific antidotes, receiving treatment based on the symptoms is important. This medication is not removed by dialysis, so appropriate measures should be taken at a medical institution in case of overdose.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
