Relief of symptoms from allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, etc.
This medication helps alleviate discomforting symptoms caused by seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis and reduces itching and rashes due to chronic idiopathic urticaria. It is also used to improve symptoms of dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching when used together with hydrocortisone topical preparations.
Adults and children over 6 years: Administer 1 tablet (5 mg of Levocetirizine hydrochloride) orally once daily, irrespective of meals. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on kidney function. - Normal kidney function (≥ 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 1 tablet every 2 days - Severe renal impairment (15 -< 30 mL/min): Not requiring dialysis. 1 tablet every 3 days. End-stage renal disease (< 15 mL/min): Requires dialysis. Contraindicated.

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to its ingredients or have a history of allergy to hydroxizine or piperazine derivatives. It should not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication. This medication must not be used in infants under 1 year of age, and children under 6 years should be given a liquid form instead of the tablets. This tablet contains lactose, so patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Patients with decreased kidney or liver function, as well as the elderly, should exercise caution as the blood concentration may increase when using this medication. Taking this medication can lead to central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms like indigestion, nausea, and abdominal pain. There may be rapid or irregular heartbeats, increased blood pressure, or palpitations. Hematologic side effects such as changes in blood cell counts or vasculitis may rarely occur. Allergic reactions can manifest as skin rashes, itching, swelling, and in severe cases, anaphylactic shock, so caution is warranted. Vision disturbances such as blurred vision or conjunctival congestion may occur. It can affect liver and kidney function, which may alter related test results. In children, common side effects include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and otitis media. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so care should be taken while driving or operating hazardous machinery. Taking this medication in conjunction with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may exacerbate drowsiness or decrease concentration, so it is advisable to avoid this combination. Patients at risk for urinary retention should be more cautious when using this medication. This medication is safest when not taken with other antihistamines or alcohol, and there may be possible interactions with specific medications, so consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, as sufficient safety studies have not been conducted. For children, do not use in those under 1 year of age, and dosage adjustments are necessary for those under 12 years of age. Older adults may need to start with a lower dose and be monitored closely due to potential drug accumulation from decreased kidney function. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication before allergy testing. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or restlessness may appear, and no specific antidote exists, so treatment should be symptomatic. This medication is not effectively removed by hemodialysis, so caution is necessary in case of overdose.
