Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and plays a role in improving insulin resistance. It may cause or worsen congestive heart failure in some patients, so careful observation for symptoms of heart failure, weight changes, shortness of breath, and edema should be conducted after starting therapy. Patients with heart failure should not use this medication, and those with heart failure symptoms may need to discontinue or reduce the dosage. Since this medication can cause fluid retention and potentially worsen heart failure, it should be administered with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or myocardial infarction. This medication should not be given to patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, those with heart failure, liver impairment, severe renal impairment, type 1 diabetes, severe infections or trauma, or pregnant women. When combined with other oral hypoglycemic agents, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so caution is warranted, particularly when used with sulfonylureas or insulin. During treatment with this medication, adverse reactions such as edema, weight gain, headache, upper respiratory infections, myalgia, etc., may occur, and symptoms indicating liver dysfunction or visible hematuria and urination issues should be reported to a physician immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a specialist as taking this medication may affect the fetus, and those who are breastfeeding should determine its use according to a doctor's guidance. Elderly patients or those with impaired renal function should be closely monitored during treatment with this medication and should receive regular blood sugar and liver function tests. If symptoms such as sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or edema occur during treatment, immediate medical attention should be sought, and the medication should be taken exactly as prescribed. Finally, this medication is not recommended for use in children as safety and efficacy have not been established.
