Treatment of inflammatory diseases of the external and anterior parts of the eye (e.g., blepharitis, conjunctivitis, etc.)
This medication is used to treat various inflammatory diseases that occur in the external and anterior parts of the eye, such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, iritis, and uveitis, among others. It is also effective in alleviating inflammation following surgery. Therefore, it helps improve discomfort and symptoms associated with inflammation of the eye.
Instill 1 to 2 drops, 2 to 4 times a day. Adjust as appropriate based on symptoms.
This drug should not be used in patients with viral keratitis or conjunctivitis, fungal eye diseases, mycobacterial infections, or chronic blepharitis. Individuals who are allergic to this drug should also avoid its administration. The drug is generally not used in patients with corneal epithelial damage or ulcers, patients with tuberculosis or purulent eye diseases, glaucoma patients, and infants under 2 years of age; however, if absolutely necessary, it should be used very cautiously. Long-term use of this medication can increase intraocular pressure leading to glaucoma, so regular monitoring of intraocular pressure is required. Infections such as herpetic keratitis or corneal ulcers may worsen, so immediate treatment should be sought if any signs of infection appear. Long-term use may also increase the risk of posterior subcapsular cataract or secondary eye infections due to immune suppression. In cases of acute purulent eye infections, symptoms may be masked or worsened by using this medication, so caution should be exercised. Side effects such as eye inflammation, pain, conjunctival hyperemia, accommodation disturbances, and ptosis may occur. This medication contains phosphates, which can very rarely cause corneal calcification in patients with severe corneal damage. After cataract surgery, wound healing may be delayed and there is a risk of blister formation. Long-term use can suppress hormonal functions in the body, thus caution is needed. If any allergic symptoms develop, use should be discontinued immediately. Contracting chickenpox or measles while using this medication can be very dangerous, so history and vaccination status should be checked carefully to avoid infections. Using this drug without a physician's diagnosis for reddened eyes may impair vision, so it must be used strictly under professional guidance. Patients with a history of herpes simplex require regular examinations while using this medication. If used for more than 10 days, children or patients who are unable to cooperate must also undergo regular intraocular pressure tests. This drug is ineffective for mustard gas keratitis or Sjögren's conjunctivitis. If inflammation or pain continues or worsens for more than 48 hours, use should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted. If wearing contact lenses, they should be removed before instilling this medication and may be worn again only after a minimum of 30 minutes. Vision may temporarily blur after instillation, so driving or operation of hazardous machinery should be avoided. Particular care is required for children and patients on certain medications, as they are at a higher risk of systemic side effects. The risk of side effects may increase if this medication is used in combination with certain drugs, so consultation with a physician is advised. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid long-term or frequent use; similarly, breastfeeding should be avoided or discontinued during use. Children and the elderly may react differently to medications, and thus special caution is required when using this drug. This drug is for ophthalmic use only, and care should be taken to prevent the tip of the container from touching the eye. Shake well before use, avoid sharing to prevent contamination, and for single-use products, use immediately after opening and discard the remaining solution. Store in a tightly sealed container to protect from air and moisture, and keep at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This way of storage will help maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer period.
