Summary

Main use
Reduction of risk for myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hypercholesterolemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily. Patients requiring a more significant reduction in LDL cholesterol can start at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosing regimen should be individualized within the range of 10-80 mg once daily based on therapeutic goals and patient characteristics, and lipid levels should be analyzed after 2-4 weeks to adjust the dose accordingly. The aim of treatment is to lower LDL cholesterol levels, so it is recommended to monitor LDL cholesterol when initiating treatment and assessing treatment response. If LDL cholesterol levels cannot be monitored, total cholesterol levels can be utilized for monitoring treatment response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is 10-80 mg once daily, administered either alongside other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when these therapies are not possible.
Child dose
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-17), the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. The administered dose should be adjusted according to the therapeutic goals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly effective in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease or type 2 diabetes, reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. Moreover, in patients already diagnosed with heart disease, it lowers the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, vascular interventions, and congestive heart failure. It is also used for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, effectively reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels as an adjunct to dietary therapy. It is especially beneficial in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and pediatric patients. This medication effectively improves cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
