Treatment of male pattern baldness
This medication is used to treat androgenetic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness, in adult males aged 18 to 41 years. It helps slow down the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth. With continuous use, it can improve hair thinning symptoms by reducing the rate of hair loss or enabling hair regrowth.
Typically, 1 mg of finasteride is taken orally once daily, with or without food. There is no evidence to suggest that increasing the dose enhances efficacy. Generally, it may take at least 3 months of continuous use to see treatment effects, and ongoing use is recommended to maintain efficacy. Treatment duration and efficacy should be assessed continuously. If usage is discontinued, treatment effects will diminish within 12 months.
This medication should not be used by children or women. Especially pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as it can be absorbed through the skin and cause harm to a male fetus. Depression or mood changes may occur during the use of this medication, so immediate consultation with a doctor is advised if these symptoms occur. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not take this medication and must inform healthcare providers if they become pregnant during use, as there could be risks to the fetus. Patients with liver function issues need to be cautious when using this medication, as it is metabolized in the liver. Sexual side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders may occur while taking this medication, and consultation with a doctor is recommended if these symptoms are observed. In most cases, symptoms improve after discontinuation of the medication. Allergic reactions such as breast pain, breast enlargement, rashes, or itching may occur, so it is important to notify healthcare providers of any unusual symptoms immediately. This medication may influence the risk of prostate cancer, so it is important to have regular check-ups with a doctor and monitor PSA levels. Drug interactions are relatively few, but consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is recommended if taking other medications. This medication can be used in elderly patients without dosage adjustments, but the efficacy in elderly populations is not fully established. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but if symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Keep the medication out of reach of children and store it in its original container for safety.
