Improvement of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise for improving blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be taken alone or in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin if there is no improvement in blood sugar levels after using other oral hypoglycemic agents. Additionally, patients with type 2 diabetes require nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise, as these efforts are important not only for initial treatment but also for maintaining the efficacy of the medication. This medication effectively enhances blood sugar control.
This medication is taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. Starting as monotherapy, it is administered at a dose of 15 mg once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 30 mg once daily. In cases of combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin, the initial dose is 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose does not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience with use in pediatric patients under 18 years of age; therefore, administration is not recommended.
This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and works to improve insulin resistance. This medication may burden the heart in some patients and should not be used in patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. During treatment, weight gain and edema may occur, and if these symptoms appear, consult a physician. Moreover, this medication should not be administered to patients with a history of bladder cancer or those with active bladder cancer. Patients with impaired liver function or severe renal impairment should use this medication with caution. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must consult a physician before taking this medication, and it is advisable for premenopausal women to take appropriate measures to prevent pregnancy. When used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so it is essential to carefully monitor the associated medications and symptoms. During treatment, regular blood sugar and liver function tests should be conducted, and any sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or edema should be reported immediately to healthcare professionals. In case of overdose, there may not be any specific symptoms; however, appropriate treatment must be obtained according to medical advice. This medication should not be used in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. It should be administered to elderly patients with caution, especially those over 75 years old.
