Improvement of Type 2 Diabetes (Blood Sugar Control)
This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with Type 2 Diabetes. It can be administered alone or, if sufficient effect is not achieved with other oral hypoglycemic agents, in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. Additionally, it is important for patients to engage in nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise therapy. These efforts greatly help maintain the effectiveness of the medication therapy, as well as initial treatment. Therefore, this medication effectively supports blood sugar improvement in patients with Type 2 Diabetes.
This medication is administered orally once daily, regardless of meals. 1. Monotherapy This medication may be started at a dose of 15 mg once daily for patients whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled by diet and exercise therapy as monotherapy with pioglitazone. If sufficient efficacy is not obtained with the initial dosing, it may be increased up to 30 mg once daily. 2. Combination therapy - In combination with sulfonylureas
There is no experience for use in children under 18 years of age, so administration is not recommended.
This medication is used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and aids the effect of insulin. During the use of this medication, it may put a strain on the heart; hence, patients with heart failure or heart disease should be particularly cautious. Symptoms of heart failure include sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, and leg swelling, and if these symptoms occur, the patient should consult a doctor immediately. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take this medication. This medication may cause fluid retention, worsening edema or heart failure, so it should be used with caution in patients who have edema or are at risk of heart disease. Furthermore, this medication should not be used in patients with a history of bladder cancer or currently having bladder cancer, and if there are urinary disorders or hematuria, the doctor should be notified immediately. Patients with poor liver function or severely impaired kidney function should also refrain from using this medication. This medication is not suitable for patients with Type 1 Diabetes who have insufficient insulin secretion or patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. While taking this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so caution should be exercised regarding hypoglycemia risk when taking it with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant must consult a doctor before taking this medication, and premenopausal women should use appropriate contraception as this medication can stimulate ovulation. This medication may cause weight gain and edema, so if there are changes in weight or symptoms of edema, the doctor should be informed. If symptoms of liver dysfunction (fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc.) occur, the patient should seek medical attention immediately, and it is important to regularly check liver function tests. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney and liver function should be particularly cautious when taking this medication, and dosage adjustments may be necessary according to the doctor's instructions. Lastly, this medication has not been confirmed for safety and effectiveness in children, so it should not be used in this population.
