Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in cases of insufficient monotherapy for hypertension

  • Hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used in patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It helps manage blood pressure more effectively through combination therapy. Hypertension can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, so adequate treatment is very important. This drug contributes to stable lowering of blood pressure, reducing the burden on the heart and maintaining a healthy vascular condition. Therefore, it is used as a treatment that aids in blood pressure control.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This drug should not be prescribed to patients with certain conditions or those who are allergic to the medication, particularly patients with severely impaired kidney function or significant liver dysfunction. During the use of this medication, blood pressure may drop too low, so it is essential to consult a physician immediately if symptoms of hypotension or dizziness occur. As electrolyte imbalances may occur, it is important to regularly check sodium, potassium, and other levels through blood tests. This drug can interact with other medications, so special caution should be taken to avoid using it alongside potassium supplements or medications containing potassium. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, skin sensitivity to sunlight may increase; therefore, it is advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure and to pay attention to UV protection. Adverse effects may occur more frequently in older adults, so they should take this medication with extra caution. If symptoms such as cough, rash, or swelling occur during use, it is critical to inform healthcare professionals and seek advice immediately. Care is needed when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. This medication has limited use experience in children and adolescents; therefore, it is best not to administer it to them.
