Improvement of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms
This medication is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms. It helps alleviate memory decline and cognitive function impairment in patients, improving the quality of daily life. It aids in slowing the progression of symptoms to maintain a more stable condition.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administrate 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For 4 to 6 weeks, administer the 5 mg dose and after assessing clinical response during this period, the dose may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to a daily dose of 10 mg, monitor for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Women over 85 years old who are underweight should not exceed 5 mg per day.
There is no experience with use in pediatric patients.
This medicine contains Donepezil Hydrochloride as its main component and is used for improving Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms. Firstly, this medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to Donepezil Hydrochloride or any component of this medicine, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women. Patients with heart disease or cardiac conduction disorders should use this medication with caution as it may slow heart rate or induce arrhythmias. Additionally, patients with a history of peptic ulcers or those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) need careful observation due to the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or exacerbation of ulcers. Patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may also experience exacerbation of symptoms due to bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion, so caution is advised. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders like Parkinson's disease may have worsened symptoms when taking this medication and should be monitored closely. This medication can produce various side effects, with severe cases reported to include syncope, cardiac block, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, intracerebral hemorrhage, movement disorders, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, acute renal failure, and sudden death. Commonly, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, headache, fatigue, and loss of appetite may occur. This medication can affect cardiac conduction, necessitating cardiac monitoring when used concomitantly with drugs that risk QT interval prolongation. Moreover, since this medication is metabolized in the liver, it may interact with certain other medications, requiring caution when used with specific antibiotics, antidepressants, and antiarrhythmic agents. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication, and even when necessary, should consult a specialist before administration. Safety in children has not been established, so its use is not recommended. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, respiratory depression, and seizures may appear, necessitating immediate emergency treatment, with atropine being available as an antidote.
