View approved original text

This medication is used as a peritoneal dialysis solution for patients with acute and chronic renal failure and helps detoxify drug poisoning that can occur during dialysis. It also aids in relieving discomfort due to low pH that may arise when using a dialysis solution composed solely of lactate. Therefore, it is effectively utilized in various situations related to the treatment of renal failure patients.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Generally, for adults, 1.5 to 2.5L is injected into the abdominal cavity and should be drained after a dwell time of 4 to 8 hours, performed 3 to 5 times a day.

Precautions

This medication is used for peritoneal dialysis treatment, which removes waste from the body through the peritoneum. Caution is needed as early cessation of peritoneal dialysis treatment can pose a life-threatening risk when there is no alternative treatment available to replace kidney function. Certain patients should avoid using this medication. For example, in cases where a hole exists in the diaphragm allowing dialysis solution to enter the thoracic cavity causing respiratory distress, in cases of severe burns in the abdomen or severe adhesions in the peritoneum, in patients with a high risk of bleeding, in cases where lactate metabolism disorder is suspected, in patients with severe electrolyte abnormalities, or in patients who have recently undergone abdominal surgery, the administration should be avoided. Furthermore, this medication should be used with caution in patients taking digitalis preparations, those with glucose metabolism disorders, patients with lumbar disorders, those using artificial colostomy, patients on diuretics, those with severe pulmonary diseases, steroid users, and pregnant women, and blood tests and monitoring should be performed as needed. Pain or bleeding at the injection site, symptoms of peritonitis, gastrointestinal disturbances, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic disorders, respiratory distress, edema, hypertension or hypotension may occur. If any unusual symptoms appear, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Peritoneal dialysis solutions must be manipulated in a sterile environment, and the clarity and quantity of the dialysis solution should always be checked. If it is cloudy or the amount decreases, caution is required due to the possibility of infection. Long-term peritoneal dialysis can decrease peritoneal function, necessitating transition to hemodialysis if needed, and loss of nutrients such as protein or vitamins may occur, requiring nutritional supplementation. For women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety of this medication has not been established, so it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In cases of overdose, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and hyperglycemia may occur, so the dose and frequency must be strictly followed, and if unusual symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication is for peritoneal dialysis use only and should not be used if the container is damaged or the contents are cloudy. Always thoroughly check the container and contents before use and avoid direct sunlight and freezing during storage. Finally, during the use of this medication, it is important to regularly monitor weight, blood test results, nutritional status, etc., to assess the treatment effectiveness and monitor for side effects.
