Treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus infections
This medication is used for the treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus infections, specifically for initial and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores.
Apply this medication to the affected area five times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if not healed after 5 days of use, it can be used for an additional 5 days.
This medication should not be used by certain patients. Individuals who have allergies or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or its components should not use this medication. Additionally, it is safe not to administer this medication to breastfeeding women and children. Caution is advised for patients with weakened immune systems, such as those with AIDS or bone marrow transplant patients. When using this medication, if there are ulcers in the genital area, pain or discomfort may occur due to the application of the drug. Various skin reactions such as temporary burning sensation, pain, dermatitis, rash, itching, and skin irritation may occur, so caution is necessary. Treatment should be initiated as soon as possible, and it is advisable to start treatment early with initial symptoms in case of recurrence. The prescribed dosage and administration must be strictly followed, and it should not be used by individuals without symptoms or who are not infected. This medication is not intended for the prevention of infections in others or to prevent recurrence. While the possibility of drug resistance is low, it cannot be completely ruled out, so caution should be exercised. This medication should not be mixed or diluted with other drugs. Interactions with other medications are not known, but caution is warranted as drug concentrations may change when used with some medications. Pregnant women or women who could become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, and it is advisable not to use this medication while breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been sufficiently established in children, so it is safer not to use it in this population. This medication is for external use only on the skin and should not be applied to the eyes or mucous membranes; contact with mucous membranes such as the eyes, mouth, and vagina may cause irritation. When applying this medication, it is recommended to wear gloves or rubber gloves to prevent the spread of the drug to other areas or infection to others.
