Effect of supplying fluid and electrolytes in dehydration and before and after surgery
This medication is used to replenish the fluids and electrolytes necessary for dehydration or before and after surgery.
Administer intravenously. The dosage should be appropriately adjusted by the physician based on the patient's age, weight, symptoms, and laboratory results. Fluid requirements for maintenance or replacement should be calculated for each patient based on these factors, and this medication should be administered accordingly. The rate of administration should not exceed 10 mEq per hour or 120 mEq per day based on potassium concentration. It is important to monitor blood glucose, serum electrolyte levels, and changes in fluid and electrolyte balance frequently during treatment.
This medication may cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms of hypersensitivity occur, use should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be obtained. Additionally, this medication can induce hyponatremia, and special attention should be paid to children, the elderly, patients after surgery, and those taking certain medications, who should regularly check their blood sodium levels. It should be avoided in patients with fluid overload; if unavoidable, fluid balance and electrolyte status must be continuously monitored. Severe side effects can occur in case of overdose; therefore, administration doses and rates must be strictly managed. Interactions may occur when used with certain medications, so if taking medications, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Safety during pregnancy has not been established; thus, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and extra caution is warranted for children and the elderly. While using this medication, there is a possibility of side effects such as injection site infections, thrombosis, and phlebitis, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Finally, this medication must be administered using sterile intravenous equipment, and the condition of the liquid must be carefully checked before and during administration.
