Diagnostic effect for diabetes and related disorders
This medication is used to measure glucose tolerance for diagnosing the condition of diabetes and related disorders.
Adults (excluding pregnant women) should be administered 75 grams of glucose. Pregnant women should be administered 100 grams of glucose.
For children, administer 1.75 grams of glucose per kg of body weight, and the total amount of glucose should not exceed 75 grams.
This medication should not be used in patients with absorption disorders related to glucose. For example, this medication is not suitable for patients who cannot properly absorb glucose or galactose. Patients with specific diseases such as diabetes insipidus should use this medication with caution. The effects of the medication should be carefully monitored in these patients. Taking this medication can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain in the digestive system. Additionally, neurological side effects such as headaches may occasionally occur. This medication must be taken orally according to a physician's instructions, and other medications should be discontinued the day before the test, avoiding excessive food intake or alcohol consumption. Patients should refrain from eating anything for 12 hours before the test and maintain a fasting state, with the test conducted in the morning while fasting. During the test, only water may be consumed, and other foods or drinks should not be ingested. During the test, a comfortable and relaxed position should be maintained, and vigorous exercise should be avoided. It is also advisable not to smoke before and during the test. Test results can be influenced by various factors, so the patient's condition should be carefully observed to interpret the results. Such factors include severe secretion dysfunction, hyperlipidemia, liver function issues, vascular diseases, brain disorders, gastric surgery, infections, pregnancy, stress, digestive absorption status, starvation, exercise, obesity, age, prolonged hospitalization, and other medications taken. In particular, older patients may have decreased bodily functions, so dosage should be reduced or used very cautiously. Finally, this medication should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children.
