Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections
This medication is used to treat initial and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus.
This medication is applied to the affected area 5 times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if not resolved after 5 days, it may be used for an additional 5 days.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Firstly, individuals who are allergic or hypersensitive to this medication or any of its ingredients should avoid use. Additionally, it is advisable not to breastfeed while using this medication. This medication is also not recommended for children. Patients with weakened immune systems, such as those with AIDS or bone marrow transplant patients, should use this medication with caution. Individuals allergic or hypersensitive to the ingredient propylene glycol included in this medication should also be cautious. During use, discomfort or pain may occur in areas with ulcers. Various skin reactions such as temporary burning sensation or mild pain, dermatitis, rash, and itching can appear, so caution is advised. The skin may become red, dry, and peel off. Treatment should be initiated as soon as symptoms first appear. The prescribed dosage and duration of administration must be strictly adhered to, and it should not be used in asymptomatic individuals. This medication is not used for infection prevention and should not be mixed with other medications. Caution is advised as it may irritate the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes. While significant drug interactions with this medication have not been reported, caution is necessary as blood concentrations may change when used with certain medications. Pregnant women should carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this medication, and it is advisable not to use it while breastfeeding. Safety for pediatric use has not been established, making it unsafe for children. This medication is a topical preparation applied to the skin only and should not be used on mucous membranes such as the eyes, mouth, or vagina. It is advisable to apply it while wearing gloves or protective rubber gloves to prevent spreading the medication to other areas or transmitting it to others.
