Efficacy & effects

Improvement of hypoproteinemia and malnutrition

  • Hypoproteinemia
  • malnutrition
View approved original text

Supports body functions and assists recovery by supplying amino acids in cases of hypoproteinemia, malnutrition, and pre- and post-surgical conditions. In such cases, amino acid supplementation is used to improve nutritional status, promote tissue damage recovery, and maintain a positive health status.

How it is given

Adult administration

Intravenous drip administration of a maximum dose of 1 to 1.5 g per day per kg of total amino acids. The infusion rate should ideally be at a concentration of about 10 g of total amino acids over 60 minutes, with a principle of administering 30-40 drops per minute.

Child administration

In children, dosage and infusion speed should be adjusted accordingly.

Precautions

This medicine must be used according to a physician's instructions. Patients with hepatic coma or at risk of hepatic coma, patients with severe renal dysfunction, patients with metabolic disorders involving nitrogen utilization issues, patients with severe heart failure, patients with pulmonary edema, patients with very low or no urine output, patients with high sodium and chloride levels, patients with AV block or myasthenia gravis, patients overhydrated, acidosis patients should not use this medication. Patients with congestive heart failure, patients with edema caused by sodium retention, patients with hyperkalemia or potassium retention, patients with liver or kidney disorders should be treated with caution. While using this medication, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash may rarely occur, so usage should be immediately stopped in case of such symptoms. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting, chest discomfort, palpitations, rapid pulse, and increased blood pressure may occur. Rapid large doses may cause acidosis, so caution is required. Occasionally, symptoms such as chills, fever, headache, shortness of breath, respiratory arrest, shock, bronchospasm, and urinary spasm may occur. Symptoms of peripheral vascular dilation may occur. Metabolic complications such as metabolic acidosis, hypophosphatemia, alkalosis, hyperglycemia, diabetes, dehydration, hypoglycemia, elevated liver enzymes, vitamin imbalance, electrolyte imbalance, and in children, hyperammonemia may develop. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function may experience elevated blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. Patients with very poor liver function may experience serum amino acid imbalance, metabolic alkalosis, systemic nitrogen retention, hyperammonemia, altered consciousness, and coma. When administering this drug in high doses or alongside electrolyte-containing solutions, caution regarding electrolyte balance is necessary. Overdosage may result in metabolic alkalosis, so preparations containing acetate ions should be used with caution. Patients with a history of kidney disease, lung disease, or heart disease should take care to avoid excessive fluid administration. Diabetic patients should have their blood sugar levels frequently measured during administration. The efficacy may decrease when used in combination with some antibiotics, and caution is advised when calcium salts are injected intravenously as magnesium may precipitate. Safety has not been established for pregnant women, so it should only be administered when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Children may have immature liver function; therefore, the concentration should be kept low, and blood ammonia levels should be frequently checked. Elderly patients may have reduced physical functions, requiring slow administration rates and reduced dosages. This medication contains electrolytes, requiring attention to electrolyte balance during high doses, and the administration rate should be slow. Rapid infusions may cause chills or vomiting, and a significant amount of amino acids may be excreted through the kidneys. In cold conditions, medication should be warmed to body temperature before use. There is a risk of infection during administration, so particular attention should be paid to the preparation and management of infusions and sterilization of syringes. If the solution appears cloudy or discolored or if there are defects in the packaging, it should not be used, and it must be used promptly after mixing. If crystals form, they should be dissolved at 50-60 degrees and cooled to body temperature before use. During storage, the medication should be kept unopened, and if the packaging is damaged, it should not be used. Patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication.
