This medication is effective for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, acute gout, and dysmenorrhea. It is also widely used for symptoms such as bursitis, musculoskeletal disorders (sprains, strains, trauma, lumbago), postoperative pain, migraine, and post-extraction pain. Therefore, it is used to help relieve inflammation and pain in various joint and musculoskeletal disorders, improving patients' symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis Administer naproxen as 250-500 mg orally twice a day (every 12 hours). For adult patients with excellent tolerability to low doses, the dosage may be increased to up to 1,500 mg per day for a limited time when a high level of anti-inflammatory effect is required. 2. Acute gout Administer naproxen as an initial dose of 750 mg orally and continue with 250 mg orally every 8 hours until the attack resolves.

Precautions

Patients who regularly consume more than three glasses of alcohol per day should consult a physician or pharmacist before taking this medication. The risk of gastrointestinal bleeding may increase when taken with alcohol. This medication can affect the cardiovascular system and may increase the risk of thrombosis, myocardial infarction, and stroke, so those with cardiovascular disease or risk factors should take special care. Symptoms related to the cardiovascular system should be carefully monitored during treatment, and any abnormalities should be immediately discussed with healthcare professionals. It may also affect the gastrointestinal tract, potentially leading to serious issues like gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations; therefore, elderly patients or those with a history of gastrointestinal issues should use it with caution. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions, so care is needed. Patients with a history of peptic ulcers, severe blood disorders, liver dysfunction, heart failure, kidney dysfunction, hypertension, or hypersensitivity to this medication or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take this medication. Patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, bleeding tendencies, liver or kidney dysfunction, heart failure, hypertension, bronchial asthma, autoimmune diseases, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously. Various side effects, including allergic reactions, gastrointestinal bleeding, blood disorders, liver and kidney dysfunction, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and skin reactions, may occur rarely; if any abnormal symptoms appear, the patient should stop taking this medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. It is advisable to administer this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration, and regular blood tests, liver, and kidney function tests should be performed during treatment. Drug interactions may occur when taken with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or specific medications, so patients should inform healthcare professionals of any medications they are currently taking. This medication should not be used during pregnancy, especially in the late stages of pregnancy; after the second trimester, it may affect fetal kidney function, so it should only be used at the lowest dose if absolutely necessary. If breastfeeding, this medication may pass into breast milk and cause side effects in newborns; thus, it should be avoided. It is advisable not to use this medication in infants under 2 years of age, as safety is not established, especially in children and the elderly, who should be cautious and administer the minimum dose while being alert for side effects.
