Improvement of hypoproteinemia and malnutrition
Amino acid supplementation is important in cases of hypoproteinemia, malnutrition, and pre- and post-operative situations. In these situations, the supply of protein within the body is insufficient or the need is increased, thus amino acids are used to adequately supply them to maintain bodily functions and aid recovery.
Administer as a continuous intravenous infusion of total amino acids 1-1.5 g per kg body weight per day, with a maximum dosage. The administration concentration of total amino acids about 10 g over 60 minutes is preferable, administering 30-40 drops per minute.
Dosage and infusion rates should be adjusted for children.
This medication must be used according to a doctor's instructions. It should not be administered to patients in hepatic coma or those at risk of hepatic coma. Patients with severe renal impairment or elevated blood nitrogen levels should also not use this medication. Metabolic disorder patients with problems utilizing nitrogen and patients with wasting heart failure should avoid use as well. It should not be used in patients with pulmonary edema or those with very low urine output (oliguria, anuria). This medication is also unsuitable for patients with hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, or alkalosis due to excessive sodium or chloride. Patients with severe acidosis, congestive heart failure, or edema due to sodium retention should be administered with caution. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should also be cautious, and care should be taken due to allergic reactions or asthmatic attacks that can be caused by sodium bisulfite. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes may occur, and in such cases, immediate discontinuation is necessary. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and cardiovascular symptoms like chest discomfort, palpitations, and elevated blood pressure may occur. Rapid administration may lead to acidosis, so caution is required. Serious reactions such as chills, fever, headache, dyspnea, and shock have also been reported. Metabolic acidosis, electrolyte imbalances, and blood glucose irregularities may occur, so it is essential to monitor these closely. Patients with reduced liver or kidney function may have changes in blood test results, so regular monitoring is needed. When this medication is used in large amounts or in conjunction with electrolyte-containing solutions, care should be taken for electrolyte balance. Overdosage may result in metabolic alkalosis; therefore, special caution is advised. Patients with kidney, lung, or heart diseases should be carefully administered to prevent excessive fluid burden. Diabetic patients should frequently check their blood sugar while using this medication. This medication may be less effective when used with certain antibiotics, so consultation with a physician is necessary. Safety has not been established in pregnant women, so it should only be used when the therapeutic benefit outweighs the risks. In children, lower concentrations should be used as liver function may be immature, and blood ammonia levels should be checked frequently. For the elderly, slower administration rates and dosage adjustments are needed due to impaired physical function. This medication contains electrolytes, so special attention should be given to electrolyte balance during large infusions, and it should be administered slowly via intravenous injection. Fast infusion rates may cause chills or vomiting and could result in significant amino acid excretion via the kidneys. The infusion fluid should be warmed to body temperature and prepared and managed in a sterile state to reduce the risk of infection. If the solution is cloudy or discolored before administration, it should not be used, and care should also be taken during storage.
