Improvement of condition through hydration and electrolyte supply for dehydration and pre/post-surgical energy supply.
This medication is used to replenish necessary fluids and electrolytes in cases of dehydration or before and after surgery. It also aids in energy supply.
For adults, 500–1,000mL is administered via slow intravenous infusion. The administration rate is 300–500mL per hour (75–120 drops per minute).
For children, the administration rate should be 50–100mL per hour. The dosage and administration rate should be adjusted appropriately according to age, weight, and symptoms.
This medication contains dextrose, which may increase the consumption of vitamin B1 (thiamine) in patients receiving intravenous dextrose, potentially leading to a temporary severe deficiency of vitamin B1. This medication should not be administered to patients with excessive amounts of fluid, patients in a state of dehydration due to storage, patients with low serum potassium levels, and patients with high serum sodium levels. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, patients with heart failure, patients in a hyperosmolar dehydrated state, patients with decreased urine output due to urinary tract obstruction, diabetic patients, patients with elevated serum chloride levels, and patients with very low serum sodium levels. Rapid administration of this medication in large amounts can cause edema in the brain or lungs, peripheral edema, acidosis, and excessive body fluid retention. There is a high risk of excessive body fluids appearing when it is administered rapidly to newborns or premature infants. Care should be taken as thrombosis can occur in the veins at the infusion site. Blood glucose, electrolyte levels in the blood, and body fluid balance should be regularly monitored during administration. The safety of this medication has not been sufficiently demonstrated in pregnant women, so it should only be used when the treatment benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. Administering a dextrose-containing solution during labor can lead to hyperglycemia in the mother and problems such as hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, or metabolic acidosis in the newborn. Particularly for preterm or low-birth-weight infants, close monitoring of blood glucose is necessary due to a high risk of glucose fluctuations, as hypoglycemia can cause seizures, coma, or brain damage. For infants and the elderly, this medication should not be administered rapidly or for extended periods, and in elderly patients with heart or kidney failure, it should be administered carefully to reduce cardiovascular burden. In cases of overdose, diuretics should be used to manage body fluids. The patient's skin and the equipment used should be disinfected before administration to prevent infection, and the medication should be warmed to body temperature for use during cold seasons. Immediately use any opened medication and discard any leftovers. Administer slowly via intravenous infusion and avoid continuous connection of containers to prevent air embolism. This medication should be stored at room temperature, and proper storage and handling are important.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container, safely at temperatures between 1 degree Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will maintain the drug's effectiveness and prevent degradation.
