Precautions

This medication contains the anti-inflammatory analgesic component piroxicam, which should not be used in certain patients. First, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this medication or other piroxicam formulations should not use it. Additionally, patients who have experienced asthma attacks due to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs known as aspirin-sensitive asthma, or those with allergic symptoms such as hives, rhinitis, or swelling of the face or neck should avoid using this medication. This medication should not be administered to children under 14 years of age. Patients with bronchial asthma should use this medication cautiously as it may exacerbate asthma attacks. This medication contains the ingredient propylene glycol, so patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to this ingredient should be vigilant. Skin reactions including itching, redness, rash, scaling, eczema, dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and erythema may occur, with rare instances of photosensitive reactions. Particularly, patients with kidney disease may be at risk of severe kidney issues such as acute interstitial nephritis. It is important to understand that this medication does not treat the underlying causes of inflammation or pain but helps alleviate symptoms. In cases of inflammation accompanied by skin infections, appropriate antibacterial or antifungal medications should be used alongside this treatment, with close observation of the patient's condition. When used for chronic conditions like degenerative arthritis, other therapeutic options should be considered in addition to pharmacological treatment, and side effects should be carefully monitored. This medication is not used during the third trimester of pregnancy as it may delay childbirth or cause excessive bleeding during delivery, or lead to heart and lung issues in the newborn, as well as decreased kidney function. While animal studies have shown no harm to fetuses during early and mid-pregnancy, safety in humans is not definitively established, so caution is advised. Furthermore, this medication is partially secreted in breast milk, so it is advisable for nursing women to avoid its use. The safety of this medication has not been established in premature infants, newborns, infants, and children, so use should be avoided in these populations. In elderly patients, side effects may occur more easily, so it should be administered in minimal doses only when necessary and with caution. This medication should not be applied to areas with skin wounds, eczema, infections, burns, etc. Also, it should not be used in methods like sealed bandaging, and care is needed to avoid irritation when skin damage is present.
