Efficacy & effects

This medication is effective for idiopathic Parkinson's disease and other types of Parkinsonism such as postencephalitic or atherosclerotic Parkinsonism. It is also used for pain relief caused by skeletal muscle spasms, thus helping to improve Parkinsonian symptoms and treat muscle pain.

Dosage

Oral: Administer 2 tablets (50 mg) of orphenadrine hydrochloride three times a day orally. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms. Injectable: Administer 80-120 mg (4-6 mL) of orphenadrine hydrochloride intramuscularly daily. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with glaucoma. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with obstruction of the pylorus and duodenum or those with stenosing peptic ulcers. It is advised not to use this medication in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck obstruction. Patients with esophageal spasms or megasyndrome and those with severe myasthenia gravis should also avoid this medication. Patients who have allergic reactions to this medication must not take it. Furthermore, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be given to patients with genetically determined galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with tachycardia or cardiovascular disease should use this medication with caution. Patients with liver or kidney function issues should also be administered this medication carefully. Taking this medication may cause symptoms like dry mouth, palpitations, constipation, urinary disturbances, and blurred vision. Various side effects such as drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, skin rash, weakness, insomnia, and nervousness may also occur, so if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. This medication may lead to dependency, so do not suddenly stop taking it and should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety is not guaranteed. Lastly, safety has also not been sufficiently confirmed for children or infants, so it should be used cautiously only if necessary.
