This medication is used for painful spasms accompanying musculoskeletal disorders, such as low back pain, shoulder syndrome, adhesive capsulitis, and degenerative spinal disease.
Dosage
(Oral: Tablets) Methocarbamol 1.5-2.25g per day divided into 3 doses. (Injectable) Methocarbamol 500mg administered by intramuscular or intravenous injection. Do not exceed a single dose of 1g or a total daily dose of 3g, and do not administer continuously for more than 3 days. If pain persists, the same procedure can be repeated with caution after 48 hours.
Precautions
This medication may contain glass particles from the injection container, so it should be cut carefully when used. Extra caution is required when administering to children or the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to this drug or similar drugs, in patients with renal impairment, in patients with severe myasthenia gravis, or in those in a coma or with a history of brain injury, epilepsy, or seizures. In patients with liver impairment, this medication may exacerbate symptoms, so it should be used with caution. Furthermore, individuals with an allergy to sulfite components may experience severe allergic reactions such as asthma attacks when using this medication, so caution is needed. While using this medication, skin rash, urticaria, itching, bradycardia, low blood pressure, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, metallic taste, fever, and injection site pain may occur, and if these symptoms arise, medical consultation should be sought immediately. As drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur during treatment, it is advisable to avoid driving vehicles or operating hazardous machinery. If taken with other central nervous system depressants or specific medications, the drug's effects may be enhanced, necessitating careful dose adjustments and monitoring when used in combination. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety is not assured; breastfeeding women should preferably avoid its use. The safety and efficacy in infants and children have not been established, thus usage is not recommended. Elderly patients may have reduced body functions and should use this medication with caution, possibly at a reduced dosage. This medication may affect results of certain clinical tests, so it is important to inform healthcare professionals before testing. Injectables should only be used when oral administration is not feasible, and during intravenous administration, the drug should be diluted and slowly infused while the patient is in a lateral position. Care should also be taken to prevent glass particles from entering when cutting the ampoule.
