Precautions

This medication is a powerful diuretic that alters the balance of water and electrolytes in the body. Overdosage can lead to severe water and electrolyte deficiencies, so regular tests should be conducted to monitor the condition and adjust the dosage as needed for each patient. Care should be taken when opening the ampule, as there is a risk of glass fragments mixing in, especially when administering to children or the elderly. This medication is contraindicated for certain patients. For instance, it should not be administered to those allergic to this drug or its components, as well as patients with hypovolemia, dehydration, anuria, severe hypokalemia or hyponatremia, severe liver dysfunction, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients on certain medications. Patients with partial urinary excretion impairment or specific conditions such as hypotension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gout, cirrhosis, or renal impairment should be administered with caution, requiring careful observation and regular testing at the start and during treatment. This drug can cause a variety of side effects. Symptoms such as electrolyte imbalances, reduced blood pressure, impaired kidney function, gastrointestinal disturbances, liver dysfunction, auditory disorders, skin reactions, immune system abnormalities, and neurological symptoms may appear; patients should immediately consult healthcare professionals if symptoms occur. During administration, serum sodium, potassium, and creatinine levels should be regularly monitored, and caution should be taken to prevent dehydration or electrolyte imbalances. Additionally, since the diuretic effect of this drug may occur suddenly, it is safe to start with a low dose and gradually increase. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is important to exercise caution, especially when taken with certain antibiotics, antipsychotic medications, antihypertensives, lithium preparations, thyroid hormone preparations, etc., and to always consult a physician or pharmacist. During pregnancy, it should not be administered unless under special circumstances as it may affect the fetus, and during breastfeeding, it should also be avoided due to the potential transmission of the drug through breast milk, which may affect the infant. In pediatric patients, particularly preterm infants or neonates, there is a risk of kidney stones or electrolyte imbalances, so careful administration is required, while elderly patients should start with a low dose and be closely monitored. When administering intravenously, it should be injected slowly, with attention paid to potential nerve damage and pain at the injection site. An appropriate solution should be used for dilution, and it should be used as soon as possible after preparation. In case of overdose, severe symptoms may arise due to electrolyte and fluid loss, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals immediately and receive necessary emergency treatment. There is no antidote, and treatment should focus on symptom relief and electrolyte correction.
