This medicine is used to maintain the body balance of water and electrolytes, particularly sodium and chloride, when they are deficient. It is also used for the dissolution and dilution of other injections.

Sodium chloride is typically administered subcutaneously, intravenously, via intravenous drip, or rectally in a volume ranging from 20 to 1,000mL. The dosage and rate of administration should be adjusted appropriately according to age, weight, and symptoms.

Precautions

Since this medication is in ampoule form, care must be taken when opening the ampoule to avoid contamination with glass particles. Extra caution is necessary, especially for children and the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with hypernatremia or in conditions where there is excess body fluid, as well as in patients with edema and ascites due to liver cirrhosis. Caution should be exercised in patients with heart or circulatory issues, decreased kidney function, and low protein levels in the blood. Additionally, patients with abnormal sodium or potassium levels, peripheral or pulmonary edema, pregnancy-related preeclampsia, certain hormonal disorders, as well as children and the elderly require special attention. Rapid or excessive administration of this medication may burden the heart and lead to adverse effects such as congestive heart failure, edema, acidosis, and electrolyte imbalance. Injection site infections, pain, phlebitis, thrombosis may also occur, so proper injection technique is crucial. If side effects occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and the patient's condition should be assessed, followed by appropriate treatment and testing as necessary. During the use of this medication, the patient's fluid balance, electrolyte levels, and acid-base status should be regularly monitored for changes in condition. As elderly individuals may have reduced physiological function, special caution is required regarding the infusion rate and dosage adjustment. When preparing, verify that this medication mixes well with other drugs, and check for color changes, precipitates, or crystals before administration. The patient's skin or injection devices should be thoroughly disinfected before administration to prevent infection, and it is advisable to warm the medication to body temperature on cold days.
