What does it do?

Leflunomide is a component of the immunosuppressive class used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. It is primarily used to modulate the immune response in chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. This component reduces inflammation by inhibiting the excessive activation of the immune system.

Leflunomide decreases the immune response by inhibiting enzymes necessary for the proliferation of immune cells. Through this mechanism, it alleviates inflammation and tissue damage seen in autoimmune diseases. Consequently, it helps reduce joint pain and swelling.

Good to know

Unlike other immunosuppressants, Leflunomide has a unique mechanism of action that blocks pyrimidine synthesis. This results in a sustained and selective immunosuppressive effect on immune cell proliferation. Additionally, it is relatively convenient for oral administration, enhancing patient compliance.
