What does it do?

It is an antibiotic component that combines amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate in a 2:1 ratio. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic mainly used for the treatment of bacterial infections, and potassium clavulanate inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, enhancing the effectiveness of amoxicillin.

Amoxicillin kills bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of their cell walls. Potassium clavulanate protects amoxicillin from being broken down by enzymes produced by bacteria. As a result, it is effective against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Good to know

Unlike amoxicillin alone, the inclusion of potassium clavulanate provides efficacy against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. This combination broadens the treatment scope against resistant bacteria.
