What does it do?

Felodipine is a drug that belongs to the calcium channel blocker class, used to lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels. It is mainly prescribed for blood pressure control in patients with hypertension. This ingredient inhibits the influx of calcium into vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to relaxation of blood vessels.

Felodipine blocks the calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, preventing calcium from entering the cells. As a result, blood vessels relax, resistance decreases, and blood pressure lowers. Consequently, it reduces the burden on the heart.

Good to know

Unlike other calcium channel blockers, Felodipine has a high selectivity for blood vessels, providing a strong vasodilatory effect while minimally affecting heart rate. This results in relatively fewer side effects and effective blood pressure control.
