What does it do?

Apremilast belongs to the phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor class of drugs. It is primarily used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and is used to reduce inflammation and modulate excessive immune responses.

Apremilast inhibits the degradation of cAMP, an intracellular signaling molecule, thereby decreasing the production of inflammatory mediators. This results in the alleviation of inflammatory responses and the modulation of excessive activation of immune cells.
