What does it do?

Tremelimumab is a monoclonal antibody belonging to the immune checkpoint inhibitor class. It is used to assist the immune system's T cells in recognizing and attacking cancer cells for cancer treatment. It is primarily used to enhance immune responses in certain types of cancer.

Tremelimumab works by blocking the CTLA-4 protein on the surface of T cells, allowing T cells to be activated without suppression. As a result, the immune system can recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively, leading to the suppression of cancer cell growth.

Good to know

Tremelimumab is one of the immune checkpoint inhibitors that target CTLA-4, and it has a different mechanism of action compared to other immune checkpoint inhibitors that target PD-1 or PD-L1. This allows it to be used alone or in combination therapies for certain types of cancer, with differences in how immune responses are regulated.
