What does it do?

Mavacamten is a drug that regulates the contractile function of cardiac muscle and is used to improve heart function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This ingredient works by modulating the activity of myosin within cardiac muscle cells to reduce cardiac workload. It is primarily prescribed to alleviate excessive contractions of the heart muscle.

Mavacamten selectively inhibits the activity of myosin proteins within cardiac muscle cells, thereby regulating cardiac contractility. This reduces excessive contractions of the heart muscle, alleviates the burden on the heart, and improves symptoms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. As a result, heart function is maintained more efficiently.

Good to know

Mavacamten is the first drug that acts directly on myosin proteins, unlike traditional cardiac contraction modulators. This allows for selective regulation of excessive contractions of the heart muscle while having relatively less impact on other cardiac functions. Due to this characteristic, it shows specialized effects for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
